The laws which criminalize intake of anabolic steroids have appeared because of certain conditions. They turned out to be responses to widespread usage of steroids in competitive sports. Anti-Doping Agencies believed that prohibition of steroids would keep professional sportspersons far from intake of illegal preparations. But criminalization of steroids influenced on intake of steroids by competitive sportspersons insignificantly.
The steroid laws commonly don’t prosecute sportspersons that use illegal medications. On the contrary, non-competitive sportspersons and recreational bodybuilders are usually targets of the steroid laws. They suffer due to consequences of violation of these laws.
This is not just one’s opinion. This is reality. Let see: who is sentenced to jail because of selling steroids? For example, Ashley Dewayne Rivers of Alabama was sentenced to 5 months in jail because he had sold about $2000 worth of steroids to a health care provider. In fact, this person wasn’t the target of a steroid investigation. He just turned out to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The estranged wife of this physician informed federal investigators that her husband was implicated in operations of black steroid market. Thus, the statement of this lady caused the situation, when the physician was investigated.
Actually, Ashley Rivers was a dealer of steroids for short period of time. This person provided these medicines to his friends of his gym. James Robinson, the defense attorney for Ashley Rivers, noticed that his client had understood his guilty completely and taken the whole responsibility for his illegal actions. The attorney confirmed that Rivers was a good man. However he violated the steroid laws, he recognized the risks and acknowledged his guilty.
The attorney James Robinson asked the judge to sentence Rivers Ashley just to probation. Rivers cared about his physically impaired wife, 2 children that were adopted by him and 3 children of his disabled brother. Moreover, Rivers gave about 40, 000 dollars for individuals that lost their homes because of tornadoes. It would be better, if this person were sentenced to probation. This person would continue to work for his family and other individuals.
But Christopher Brinson, the Assistant U. S. Attorney, rejected the request of the defense attorney for River. He claimed that this man committed a serious crime and he must serve time in prison. However the judge was inclined to agree with the request of the defense attorney James Robinson at the beginning, finally he made the decision to agree with the Assistant U.S. Attorney and sentenced Ashley Rivers to 5 months in jail.
You may realize that steroid laws have just a slight influence on professional sportspeople.
