Steroids use and brain cells

You know that steroids are taken by several sportsmen in order to enhance muscle size and energy. But according to recent researches, taking of steroids is a very negative factor for brain cells. Since these drugs enhance level of testosterone in body, they affect and even destruct brain cells. This confirmation about destruction of brain cells by induced amount of testosterone was approved by a study leaded by Yale School of Medicine that was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Scientists suggest that abnormal aggressiveness manifested by steroids users testify that certain amount of brain cells was destroyed due to utilizing of steroids.
Barbara Ehrlich, a professor, a leader of a research related to steroids use, recommends not to condemn those who take steroids, if they act aggressively. It is necessary to realize that it can be not their fault. Steroids must have been responsible for abnormal actions of those who apply these preparations.
The research conducted by Yale School of Medicine showed that testosterone killed nerve cells. One of principal functions of testosterone produced naturally is following: to kill nerve cells which may be harmful for the whole body due to their destructions. But when level of this hormone is increased, it kills not only destructed cells but healthy ones too. It can lead to such dangerous ilnesses, as appearing of Alzheimer's and Huntingdon's disease and others.

Aggressiveness of hamsters due to steroids
Hamsters were recruited in one of researches published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience. The specialists participated in the research observed effects of anabolic steroids upon the hamsters. The hamsters that were given these medicines became too aggressive. Their brain activity was modified a lot due to these preparations.
The specialists concluded that steroids damaged people’s brain the same way as hamsters’ brain. According to their words, people think that steroids are forbidden due to their athletic effects. But they have to realize that the main reason is negative influence of these medicines on human health. Steroids must be used only for treatment of diseases by prescriptions of doctors. Administration of steroids in sports should be forbidden totally.
