When is manufacture of steroids treated as child abuse in New Mexico?

Ruben Jaramillo, a person in New Mexico, is accused in child abuse. Police raided his house and discovered that his house was a clandestine lab that had manufactured anabolic steroids. According to New Mexico laws, anybody can be accused in child abuse, if he\she even only allows children to be there, where the chemical substances or proper equipment applied for production or keeping of these illegal medicines are present.
When the Albuquerque Police Department’s Eastside Narcotics Team raided the house, they found out that there was a clandestine lab in it. Police found several kilograms of raw powder for manufacture of steroids, such substances, as benzyl alcohol and sunflower oil, more than 150 vials of the controlled substances. Certain vials were labeled “Testosterone Cypionate”. Moreover, police reported that information connected with prices, quantities and types of steroids had been found too. Chemical compounds were in various rooms around the house, including the bedroom and the kitchen.
Ruben’s 2 daughters of 11 and 13 years old were at home, when police officers raided the house.
It is known that New Mexico is not the only state where the manufacture of anabolic steroids can be treated as child abuse. At least 10 other states have got similar laws. Such laws have certain basis.
Chemical substances may be toxic. They can influence on children’s health too negatively. It is necessary also to keep in mind that there is a risk of fires and explosions of certain chemical substances. Parents who manufacture anabolic steroids at home neglect their children’s health. The children can face great dangers in such cases. How can children live in a methamphetamine lab and be free of dangers?
Parents that just administrate steroids differ from those that produce them, especially at home.
This is the first situation in Albuquerque, when manufacture of anabolic steroids is treated as child abuse by prosecutors.

Steroids use and brain cells

You know that steroids are taken by several sportsmen in order to enhance muscle size and energy. But according to recent researches, taking of steroids is a very negative factor for brain cells. Since these drugs enhance level of testosterone in body, they affect and even destruct brain cells. Scientists suggest that abnormal aggressiveness manifested by steroids users testify that certain amount of brain cells was destroyed due to utilizing of steroids.
Barbara Ehrlich, a professor, a leader of a research related to steroids use, recommends not to condemn those who take steroids, if they act aggressively. It is necessary to realize that it can be not their fault. Steroids must have been responsible for abnormal actions of those who apply these preparations.
The research conducted by Yale School of Medicine showed that testosterone killed nerve cells. One of principal functions of testosterone produced naturally is following: to kill nerve cells which may be harmful for the whole body due to their destructions. But when level of this hormone is increased, it kills not only destructed cells but healthy ones too. It can lead to such dangerous ilnesses, as appearing of Alzheimer's and Huntingdon's disease and others.

Aggressiveness of hamsters due to steroids
Hamsters were recruited in one of researches published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience. The specialists participated in the research observed effects of anabolic steroids upon the hamsters. The hamsters that were given these medicines became too aggressive. Their brain activity was modified a lot due to these preparations.
The specialists concluded that steroids damaged people’s brain the same way as hamsters’ brain. According to their words, people think that steroids are forbidden due to their athletic effects. But they have to realize that the main reason is negative influence of these medicines on human health. Steroids must be used only for treatment of diseases by prescriptions of doctors. Administration of steroids in sports should be forbidden totally.
