Scientists want to elaborate alternative medications to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They confirm that athletes may soon have another way to induce muscles. The Salk Institute has noticed that the efforts of the scientists have success. Recent researches have shown that suppression of a genome regulator which is known as “NCoR1” leads to enhacement of muscle mass, energy and endurance. The leader of the researches conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, claims that this knowledge may contribute in development of several new medicines which will benefit not only for athletes and bodybuilders who train but also for persons who have sedentary lifestyle.
The specialists of the Salk Institute notice about individuals who are not able to perform physical exercises because they suffer of different health problems, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or mental aspects that lead to sedentary lifestyle. The scientists try to elaborate some specific medications that could benefit for sedentary persons so, as exercises benefit for healthy people. Now they make experiments with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they may lead to enhancement of muscle size in sedentary individuals. But individuals that administrate anabolic steroids have to train and change their diets to achieve more significant results.
If new products that inactivate NCoR1 are developed by specialists successfully, they will lead to essential changes in sedentary individuals. But can you imagine which positive effects will be caused in athletes?
But there is also an essential difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. It is known that anabolic steroids cause unwanted reactions; some of them may be quite dangerous for health and even fatal. Furthermore, anabolic steroids may lead to severe negative effects especially in women. But as for NCoR1 suppression, scientists assure that preparations which will block this genome regulator will not cause negative reactions.
There is an article about NCoR1 suppression which has the following title: “NCoR1 Is a Conserved Physiological Modulator of Muscle Mass and Oxidative Function”. It represents results of various experiments which involved mice and nematodes. The experiments have shown that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle mass very much. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had got more induced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice which received anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very valuable for further researches and conclusions.
It is possible to mention that elder people and people that have got muscle dystrophy will be soon enrolled in researchers to find out positive effects of new potential medicines.
